The New Zealand red admiral is a butterfly endemic to New Zealand. Its Māori name is kahukura, which means "red cloak". Our red admiral is considered the most beautiful compared to other similarly named species around the world and has colours symbolic to New Zealand's red pohutukawa and the bright blue shades of paua.

These specimens were bred in captivity, separated from the natural population.
