The Ulysses butterfly, also known as the also known as the Blue mountain swallowtail or Blue emperor, has a wingspan of about 12 cm. It's wings are an iridescent electric blue caused by the microscopic structure of it's scales, a phenomenon called structural colouration. This blue colour can range from a bright cyan to a deep indigo.
