The iconic Monarch butterfly, also known as the Common tiger or Wanderer is among the most familiar butterflies. Starting in North America, the Monarch has travelled to Oceania and other Pacific islands, situating itself as a self-introduced native species. It is New Zealand's largest native butterfly.
